Yes, you do need to check-in in advance in order to receive a boarding pass. Depending on the rules and regulations of your flight, in some cases you may be able to check-in online up to 24 hours before your flight.
First, make sure that you have all your travel documents (e.g. passports, visa, etc.) in hand. Then go to the China Southern Airlines website and enter your booking reference, flight number and date of travel. Follow the instructions. When completing the check-in process you will be given the option to print your boarding pass or, if available, you may receive an e-ticket.
You must go to the airport counter to check-in. The airline may allow you to check-in at the airport up to one hour before the flight departure. If you are unable to present your boarding pass at the airport, you will not be able to board the plane.
You must check-in at least 1 hour before flight departure.
