Explore Fastjet web baggage-allowance services
Most airlines have varying baggage allowance policies along some dimensions. These include free checked baggage weight and size limits as well as fees charged for overweight bags. Most airlines allow at least one piece of checked in baggage per passenger with the weight ranging between 23kg/50lb and 32kg/70lb. The weight limit is inclusive of bags, whether hardsided or soft-sided suitcases, and it is also inclusive of hand luggage or cabin bags. The total combined linear dimensions of the suitcases including length, height and depth cannot exceed 158cm/62 in. Some airlines have restrictions regarding the size and weight of individual pieces of luggage other than the total weight. Most airlines also charge fees if the luggage goes beyond the limits granted under the free checked luggage. Such charges are always charged per item of bag and they are always charged at the time when the passenger checks in. The cost of excess baggage increases depending on the longer the distance traveled, hence higher for international flights and quite lower for domestic flights. Some airlines also have a charge for baggage that goes beyond the maximum size and is less than the maximum weight. Some airlines also give additional free baggage allowances which are mainly given to the frequent flyer members. It is granted based on the fare class, the frequent flyer program level of the traveler and the route traveled.
